Стаття присвячена висвітленню структурних особливостей англомовних заклинань як різновиду магічного дискурсу. Матеріалом дослідження слугували англомовні тлумачні словники та спеціалізовані вебсайти, представлені в мережі Інтернет. У роботі використано такі методи дослідження, як дефініційний аналіз і контекстуально-інтерпретативний метод. У дослідженні ми використовуємо термін «магічний дискурс» як різновид «окультного дискурсу». Останній уживаємо на позначення загального напряму дискурсології, який вивчає особливості комунікації в різних містичних практиках, магії, астрології тощо, тобто всіх напрямів інституційної діяльності, які виходять за рамки науки й офіційної релігії. Магічний дискурс виділяється на підставі системотворчих ознак: його цілей та учасників. Спілкування відбувається в заданих рамках статусно-рольових відносин. Метою магічного дискурсу є реалізація базових стратегій застереження, корекції та протекції. Як учасники виступають клієнт – особа, яка звертається за допомогою, й агент – носій таємного знання, посередник, який здійснює спілкування між клієнтом і надприродними силами. Найбільш частотними типами заклинань є протективи. До них відносяться захист від прокляття (purification spell to break a curse); захист від лихослів’я (anti-slander spelt); захист від недруга й ворога (spell to make an enemy move away, spell against a trouble-maker); захист від злодійства (spell to stop someone from stealing); захист від підпалу (fire protection spell); захист чесного імені, репутації (protection spell for reputation); захист від психічного впливу (spell to rid yourself of psychic attacks); захист від фізичної травми (spell against physical harm); захист будинку та сім’ї від недоброзичливців (house protection spell); лікування недуги (spell against an illness); викорінення пороків і шкідливих звичок (banishing spell for evil and bad habits). Заклинання мають форму прохання, наказу або порівняння, виконують захисну функцію. Перспективу подальшого дослідження вбачаємо в дослідженні лексико-стилістичних особливостей різних жанрів англомовного магічного дискурсу.
The article is dedicated to highlighting the structural features of English spells as a kind of magical discourse. The study was based on English dictionaries and specialized websites available on the Internet. The research methods such as definitional analysis and contextual-interpretative method are used in the work. In this study, we use the term “magical discourse” as a type of “occult discourse”. The latter is used to denote the general direction of discourse, which studies the features of communication in various mystical practices, magic, astrology, etc., i.e. in all areas of institutional activity that go beyond science and official religion. Magical discourse is distinguished on the basis of system-creating features: its goals and participants. Communication takes place within the given framework of status-role relations. The purpose of magical discourse is to implement basic strategies of warning, correction and protection. The participants are: the client – the person who seeks help and the agent – the bearer of secret knowledge, the mediator who communicates between the client and supernatural forces. The most common types of spells are protectives. They include: purification spell to break a curse; protection against slander (anti-slander spelt); protection from the enemy (spell to make an enemy move away, spell against a trouble-maker); spell to stop someone from stealing; fire protection spell; protection of honest name, reputation; spell to rid yourself of psychic attacks; spell against physical harm; protection of the house and family from enemies (house protection spell); spell against an illness; eradication of vices and bad habits (banishing spell for evil and bad habits). Spells take the form of a request, order, or comparison, and perform a protective function. We see the prospect of further research in the study of lexical and stylistic features of different genres of English magical discourse.
