The concept of legal protection of multimedia works in the system of complex objects of copyright

Abstract

The term «multimedia» derives from the Latin multum («many») and medium («medium,» «center») and is defined as a unified system of software and hardware tools that enable the display of video and audio content on a screen – in computer games, reference databases, and other applications; and a combination of several types of mass media (e.g., radio, film, television, etc.) used to transmit information and expressive purposes. The first mentions of the term «multimedia» date back to 1970, when it was applied to books, magazines, television commercials, and other media. Later, the concept was expanded to include computer-based information processing. In foreign literature, a common approach defines a multimedia work as a regular work, similar to a literary or musical work, only converted into digital form and, in most cases, including a database. Researchers emphasize that such objects have a complex structure and include at least two components – text, sound, moving images, and software. The user is given the ability to influence the content of such an object through their actions.
