This case study offers a thorough examination of the complex world of private military companies such as the Wagner Group. Students will explore various roles and delve into the multifaceted issues surrounding Private Military Company (PMC) activities, including their impact on global security and regional stability, ethical dilemmas, and human rights violations. The goal of this exercise is to enhance students' ability to critically analyze and address intricate geopolitical scenarios involving state-sponsored private military entities. By understanding the legal frameworks governing mercenaries, combatants, and Private Military Security Companies (PMSCs), and analyzing real-world conflicts such as the war in Ukraine, students will gain a deeper insight into the complexities of global security, international law and the critical need for accountability and regulation of PMCs’ activities.
