Вербалізація концепту MAGIC як складової частини англомовного окультного дискурсу

Abstract

Мета статті полягає в аналізі лексичних засобів вербалізації концепту MAGIC як складової частини англомовного окультного дискурсу. Матеріалом аналізу виступали тлумачні, етимологічні словники англійської мови та тексти, які репрезентують англомовний окультний дискурс. У роботі використані такі методи дослідження: етимологічний аналіз, дефініційний аналіз, концептуальний аналіз, контекстуально-інтерпретаційний метод. Стаття містить визначення терміна «дискурс», наводить основні підходи до його вивчення та класифікації, виокремлює та визначає поняття окультного дискурсу. Зроблена спроба врахувати різні підходи до структурування концепту, зокрема лінгвокультурного концепту. Важливою є така теза: у структурі концепту неодмінно має відображатися вихідне сприйняття народом відповідного феномена, його осмислення на понятійному рівні, а також інші уявлення про нього, які виникають як результат безперервної взаємодії людини з навколишнім світом. Ми вважаємо, що мотиваційні та понятійні ознаки є первинними або базовими, інші ознаки є вторинними та можуть варіювати у своїй кількості та способах номінації. Проведений дефініційний і контекстуально-інтерпретаційний аналіз показав, що понятійними ознаками концепту MAGIC є power, supernatural, extraordinary, use of means, influencing or predicting events, hidden, controlling, spiritual, superhuman. Мотиваційні ознаки концепту MAGIC визначаються етимологією англійської лексеми magic і вербалізуються таким чином: to be able, have power. На основі проведеного дефініційного аналізу робимо висновок про те, що у зазначених дефініціях цих лексем містяться такі сигніфікативні компоненти: (1) СУБ’ЄКТ (ФЕНОМЕН), (2) ВЛАСТИВІСТЬ СУБ’ЄКТА (ФЕНОМЕНА) – power to influence, control, (3) Об’єкт – people, events, (4) АТРИБУТ – spiritual, supernatural, hidden. Перспективним продовженням дослідження є аналіз лексичних засобів вербалізації концепту ASTROLOGY як складової частини англомовного окультного дискурсу.The purpose of the article is to analyze the lexical means of verbalizing the concept MAGIC as a component of the English occult discourse. The analysis was based on the explanatory, etymological dictionaries of the English language and texts representing the English occult discourse. The following research methods have been used in the work: etymological analysis, definition analysis, conceptual analysis, contextual-interpretative method. The article contains the definition of the term “discourse”, provides the main approaches to its study and classification, identifies and defines the concept of occult discourse. In this study, an attempt is made to take into account different approaches to structuring the concept, in particular, the linguistic and cultural concept. The following thesis is important: the structure of the concept must reflect the initial perception of the people of the phenomenon, its understanding at the conceptual level, as well as other ideas about it that arise as a result of continuous human interaction with the outside world. We believe that motivational and conceptual features are primary or basic, other features are secondary and may vary in their number and ways of nomination. The conducted definition and contextual-interpretative analysis showed that the conceptual features of the concept MAGIC are power, supernatural, extraordinary, use of means, influencing or predicting events, hidden, controlling, spiritual, superhuman. The motivational features of the concept are determined by the etymology of the English lexical unit “magic” and are verbalized as follows: to be able, have power. Based on the definition analysis, we conclude that the definitions of these units contain the following significant components: (1) SUBJECT (PHENOMENON), (2) PROPERTY OF THE SUBJECT (PHENOMENON) – power to influence, control, (3) OBJECT – people, events, (4) ATTRIBUTE – spiritual, supernatural, hidden. A promising continuation of this study is the analysis of lexical means of verbalization of the concept ASTROLOGY as part of the English occult discourse.
